Importance of Technology in Schools for the Digital Age

Modern education plays an important role in giving the best learning experience to students. Technology has entered the field of education making a positive impact on the educational process. The transition is evident with digital classrooms, smart schools, and online learning. Information Technology in education has made life easier and faster in terms of access and information sharing. With the increasing demand for information technology worldwide, it is evident that the future is dependent on technology.

Ever since the introduction of technology in schools, the quality of education is improved and schools are adopting it as a part of their curriculum. Students too are getting accustomed to the practice by making themselves familiar with the emerging technologies. Today, schools and other educational institutions are completely surrounded by technology. This started with projectors to display content, thereby making way for grander things like GPS tracking of buses, online assessments, automated library, online fee payment options, smart report cards, etc.

Some schools have even started using technologies like RFID and NFC for mundane tasks like marking attendance. Other school chores like sharing timetables or lesson plans are also being taken care of now using technology no matter where one is. Another technological innovation, Biometric integration, has been applied to the educational realm to secure the data, mainly to calculate and track the attendance of students. The major advantage of biometric integration is that it is very difficult to spoof or replicate someone’s biometric data as the biometric authentication for everyone is unique and the individual can be identified by his/her physical or behavioral characteristics alone.

The introduction of various digital educational tools has created drastic changes in the quality of education and school mobile apps are the current trend. Integrating technology in education enhances the learning of students and also helps them stay engaged. Combining new technologies like VR (virtual reality) with traditional classroom transforms the learning experience of students. Technology not only empowers students to be more creative it also helps them to be more connected. One thing is certain, we will always find ourselves surrounded by technology and with technology in place, the future of education is already here.
